Breaking Down Baselworld: Everything You Need To Know

If you love the watch industry, you’re more than likely going to hear and see a lot about Baselworld in the next couple of weeks. If you’ve ever wondered what it is, why it’s talked about so much or if you can attend, read on!

What is Baselworld?

Baselworld is a week-long jewelry and watch trade show that takes place each spring, where the world’s top brands meet to interact with buyers, retailers and press from around the globe. The show is the biggest in the industry and is a platform for manufacturers and brands to debut their latest collections, trends and innovations.

When is Baselworld 2017?

This year, the show takes place March 23-30, 2017. It is open daily from 9am-6pm with the exception of Thursday, March 30 when it’s open from 9 am-4 pm.

Where is Baselworld?

Baselworld takes place each year in Messe Basel, Switzerland.

How big is the show?

Baselworld attracts over 1,000 exhibitors, including the biggest and most well-known brands in the watch and jewelry industry. Attendees include hundreds of thousands of industry enthusiasts, retailers, companies, journalists and more. Over 40 countries are typically represented at the show.

I’m not a brand, company or a retailer. Can I attend Baselworld?

Yes! Baselworld is open to the public. Tickets cost CHF 60 (one day) and CHF 150 (whole show) and can be purchased online or at the door.

What does a typical day look like for a Baselworld attendee?

For a retailer, like us, a typical day at Baselworld is filled with meetings, meetings and more meetings . . . and of course, some fun! We meet with brands from about 9 am-6 pm, viewing their newest collections and discussing upcoming trends and innovations. We usually attend a dinner or an event each evening, where we continue to network and discuss our business relationships with the brands. We sleep and then the next day, we do the same thing all over again! For some additional insight about what it’s like to be a retailer at Baselworld, read Jamie’s recap of the 2016 show.

Though the general public can’t buy watches at Baselworld, they can interact with their favorite brands and view new pieces and collections through glass cases.

Anything else I should expect at Baselworld?

Besides more watches than you have ever seen before, interaction with your favorite brands and a whole lot of fun? A free Baselworld 2017 app! This app (available on all devices) can help you plan your visit and stay organized while you’re at the show. Download it for daily updates, floor plans, information on the exhibitors and more!

We are so excited for this year’s Baselworld and look forward to sharing it all with you. Follow along with us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!
