Running for a Cause at the Los Angeles Marathon
On Sunday, February 14, 2016 dear friends of Feldmar Watch Company – Karen Bradbury and Michael Benavente participated in the Los Angeles Marathon as part of Team Concern Foundation. Karen and Michael ran the race and raised money in memory of Sol Meller, who passed away on November 30, 2015 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Karen and Michael started working together in the luxury watch industry in 1993 and they are both still part of the industry today. Michael Benavente is executive vice president of sales at Bulova, and Karen Bradbury is senior vice president of independent sales at Movado. They both agree that one of the main reasons they enjoy the industry is the incredible people that they meet and work with on a daily basis, one such individual was Sol Meller.
Sol was a man who lived an extraordinary life and was a true industry leader. In his honor, his family has elected to support the efforts of Concern Foundation an independent, volunteer-driven organization conceived in 1968 by a group of friends who wanted to make sure their dollars counted in the fight against cancer. With 90-95% of net proceeds going directly to research, Concern Foundation has raised more than $57 million dollars and funded 750 cancer research scientists studying cancer, primarily in the areas of cancer genetics, cell biology, and immunology.
The Meller family was proud to cheer on Karen and Michael at the race. The runners and supporters even wore team t-shirts specially designed for the event. As part of Team Concern Foundation, Karen and Michael have raised $8,418.27 as of February 19th!
