Description
In 2013, a British collector cashed in on one of the most lucrative watch investments of all time. In that year, a Breitling Top Time he had procured years earlier for just £25 at a boot sale sold at auction for a record £103,875 – a cool 4,155% return. Unbeknownst to the anonymous collector at the time of purchase, the vintage Breitling Top Time was the original timepiece worn by Sean Connery in the 1965 James Bond classic, Thunderball.
Introduced in 1964 to compete with rival racing watches like Heuer’s Carrera, the Top Time came in a wide array of dial and case styles including the signature Breitling Zorro dial. For 2021, Breitling has continued their progression of bold re-issues with the A23310121G1X1 – a modern interpretation of that original Breitling Top Time Zorro. Ticking along thanks to a chronometer certified Caliber 23 movement, the Zorro gets a contemporary upgrade from its forerunners. Additionally, the 41mm stainless steel case and red Superluminova hands are updated tweaks for today’s Zorro reissue. Now as then, the Zorro is a conversation piece and one that will (and has already) stood the test of time.
