Bell & Ross watches started life in 1992 making aviation instrument-inspired timepieces and it wasn’t long before the brand’s square cases had made a permanent mark on horology, adorning the wrists of professional aviators and collectors alike. Further cementing the French brand’s association with high-performance technology, B&R became the official sponsor of the Renault Formula 1 team in 2016. So it was that in 2018 that today’s watch, the BR Vintage V2-94 R.S. 18, arrived as the new standard for the brand’s technical mastery.
Housed in a rounded 41mm case, the BR Vintage V2-94 lineup checks many of the boxes that modern collectors care about. It wears smaller than it’s measurements suggest, aligning itself with the “vintage” part of its name. Furthermore, a high-dome crystal harkens back to the days of “top-hat” crystals but as a sapphire, offers better scratch-resistance and overall durability. And thanks to the more traditional circular case shape, the BR V2-94 assumes a less marked presence, allowing for more subtle wear.
That subtly starts and stops abruptly like an F1 machine coming in for a pit stop. This watch’s color scheme is anything but muted thanks to a high-contrast color palette consisting of Renault’s colors: yellow, black, silver, with red accents. A carbon fibre dial finishes the look, making this watch appear to be just plain fast. It’s as functional as it is stylish, offering chronograph functionality in a bi-compax layout complete with tachymeter running around the fixed bezel. And on a micro adjustable stainless steel bracelet sized for wrists up to 8”, this is a watch that is sure to hold up through tough trials.
