Few watchmakers have a history that spans as far and wide as Cartier. From the wrists of presidents, politicians, artists, pilots, and royals, Cartier has – for almost two centuries – manufactured designs that are as much adornments as museum pieces. It was in the early 1900’s with the introduction of the “Tank” that Cartier put watch design on a new path. With oblong designs and curved instead of round surfaces, Louis Cartier’s designs departed from the norm, inspiring generations of watchmakers since.
With its tonneau (barrel) 18kt solid yellow gold case and signature black Roman numerals, today’s Cartier looks just as it did over 100 years ago with minor adjustments. The fine Guilloche pattern on the dial shows serious attention to detail while the blued hands match the cabochon gemstone atop the crown. The impossibly curved crystal will draw your attention long after first laying eyes on this watch. The “vis armurier” screws at the top and bottom of the case affix the adjustable black crocodile leather strap to the case and is finished off with a rose gold buckle. Inside, a hand-wound ETA 2512-1 movement keeps accurate time.
