A person’s watch says a lot about them. Boisterous and exuberant? Expect your watch to be as loud as your personality. Quiet and reserved, preferring to notice rather than be noticed? Expect your wristwear to be understated. For some in this camp the Coke, Pepsi, and even Batman bezels of Rolex’s GMT-Master collection are perfect. For others, even these color combos are too ostentatious. If that’s you, then the Rolex GMT-Master II 116710LN is your watch. Read on!
Since the model’s advent, all GMT-Masters featured an aluminum bezel, available in a plethora of color combinations until 2005 when Rolex introduced the 116718LN, the first GMT-Master II to feature a bezel made from fade-resistant Ceracrom (ceramic). Single-color bezels remained the sole ceramic offering until Rolex cracked the bi-color code with the 116710BLNR “Batman” in 2013. For its part, today’s 116710LN – introduced in 2007 – was the first to feature the combination of classy black ceramic bezel, green GMT hand, and Rolex’s brand new “Maxi” case and dial. With its production run ended in 2018, the 116710LN has (like many things Rolex) become a highly sought-after piece of Rolex history.
With its 40mm stainless steel case and the hallmark Oysterlink bracelet, this piece is an unmistakable example of luxury and refinement. Inside, Rolex’s caliber 3186 automatic movement keeps consistent time and powers the green GMT hand, enabling tracking in multiple timezones. Additionally, watches in the
GMT-Master II line feature an improved hairspring, one that offers better temperature and magnetism resistance. Within the confines of the 24-click unidirectional bezel, the sapphire crystal supports the famous “cyclops” magnifier over the date readout, adding to the watch’s distinct profile. With 12 full-sized links included, the bracelet is sized for wrists up to 8”.
