Description
When it comes to watches, some timepieces are subtle while others are made to be noticed. Even within individual brands, there can be a lot of variety. Take Girard-Perregaux for example. Just in its line Laureato watches, there is a breadth of variety not commonly found elsewhere, ranging from the muted and subtle 38mm Clou De Paris silver to the boldly titled and styled Laureato Absolute Rock.
With a case made from what GP calls “Carbon Glass”, the Absolute Rock immediately stands out as something different in the realm of high horology. Using a proprietary manufacturing process, GP has managed to incorporate blue glass shards within a carbon case that is both stiffer than steel (by a factor of 100) while also being eight times lighter. Featuring an in-house GP Caliber GP03300-1058 movement that powers the easily readable dial complications, the GP Absolute Rock is as functional as it is unique. A high-quality black rubber strap with a triple-folding clasp brings together the overall moody aesthetic and makes for a sports watch unlike most others. Like many of GP’s special releases, the Absolute Rock is an entirely novel timepiece that has moved watchmaking technology forward.
