These days, a black pilot’s watch is almost commonplace. From Tutima to Breitling and from Bremont to Hamilton, many watchmakers producing pieces with the distinctive features that constitute pilot’s watches offer them in a black cases. However, this was revolutionary stuff in the 1990’s. Specifically, it was in 1994 that IWC introduced the 3705 Chronoflieger. The first widely-available black pilot’s watch, IWC produced about 1,000 units over several years. The model didn’t sell well and was discontinued. Since that time, the mercurial world of watch-taste has elevated the 3705 to a place of high regard, making it one of the most sought-after pilot watches in recent memory.
So when, on February 25, 2021, IWC announced the arrival of the “Tribute to 3705”, watch fans rejoiced. An homage to the original 3705 from 30 years earlier, the 2021 version features the same blacked-out case including all-black pushers and a stealthy crown instead of the silvery ones from the original. There are other subtle design differences too – mainly on the dial – but overall the watch is a fitting heir to the well-earned reputation of the original 3705. With a 69380 movement that spawns from the caliber 7750 originally used, the IWC Tribute to 3705 offers a 46-hour power reserve. We at Feldmar Watch Company are proud to offer this exclusive piece. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, this will surely go fast!
