Description
Reinterpretation is nothing new – pun intended. These days, film sequels are the standard and covers seem more common than original songwriting but now and again a remix comes along that matches or even surpasses its predecessor. With the Longines Heritage Military Marine Nationale, the new kid on the block emulates the forerunner so well, you’d be blameless for thinking it wasn’t the original.
Harkening back to the 5774, a watch Longines first produced for the French Navy during the 1940’s, today’s modern interpretation matches it almost perfectly in terms of design. Dimensionally, the Marine Nationale’s 38.5mm case is larger than the vintage version but details like the dial impression “Fab. Suisse” (Swiss Made) remain unchanged. The L888.5 movement spins blued steel hands and, lacking a date window, is historically accurate. While many fail at the exceedingly difficult task of incorporating faux patina, the Longines L2.833.4.93.2’s dial is effortlessly cool and perfectly simple.
