    Description

When Nomos added their innovative and eye-catching date indicator to the Tangente last year, fans wondered which – if any – of NOMOS’ other timepieces would receive the fun-to-view, more-fun-to-use complication. Last week at the annual Watches & Wonders event, that question was answered with the introduction of the NOMOS Metro neomatik Update.

Using a clever system of double-cutouts that frame the date numerals running around the dial’s edge, an orange indicator moves subtly beneath the dial, providing a simple yet highly readable bookend to the current date. Contracted against the plain white Bauhaus dial for which NOMOS has become famous, the date indication manages to nearly become the center of attention on the no-nonsense watch face. Slim syringe hands offer surgical precision in time-telling in combination with a small seconds indicator at the 6 o’clock spot. This is all powered by an ultra-slim in-house DUW 6101 movement viewable through the exhibition caseback. Finally, the gray fabric strap is utilitarian and easily changed out thanks to the quick-release mechanism. Altogether, the NOMOS 1165 is the perfect marriage of German design and functionality.
