Among watch enthusiasts, the Moonwatch is legendary. Innumerable accounts exist with each heralding the design, history, and tales surrounding the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. For 2021, Omega has begun a new chapter for the storied timepiece with the caliber 3186.
The sapphire versions offer a look inside via the caseback at the new caliber 3861 movement. An updated version of the previous caliber 1861 movement, it is more robust than its predecessor yet still keeps famously accurate time while calling back to the original 321 – the original Moonwatch movement. Additionally, the 3861 is the first Speedie movement to feature hacking seconds. For its part, the bracelet versions now feature a taper that calls back to vintage timepieces from the 1960s and 70s.
Available on bracelet with either sapphire or Hesalite crystal, the latest iteration satisfies the needs of both purists and modern watch fans alike. Adding to the bevy of choice, several luxury including bracelet and leather versions in 18k Sedna or Canopus gold.
