    Description

The story of Tudor cannot be told without an understanding of the Geneva-based manufacturer’s connection to Rolex. While entire books have been written on the subject, put simply, Tudor’s establishment in 1926 by Rolex founder Hans Wildorf had everything to do with bringing Rolex’s reputation for quality and distinction to a wider audience. Sharing many of the technical attributes as Rolex, Tudor benefitted from the partnership, quickly establishing itself in a way most new watch companies struggle to do.

And with a history so closely linked to that of Rolex, it’s no surprise that a keen eye could spot some cross-pollination between the Rolex and Tudor catalogs. For its part, the Tudor Black Bay 36mm – especially the black dial variant on display here – is similar in many ways to the famous Rolex Explorer. With a three-link bracelet and a black dial that contrasts sharply against the white indices, the Tudor Black Bay is clearly related to the Explorer. But look closer and see the non-numeral indices and snowflake hands lend a look that is all Tudor’s own. With a Caliber T600, the Black Bay M79500-0007 is without a doubt a supreme value without sacrificing any performance or originality.
