The Tudor Black Bay is one of the most popular watches here at Feldmar. While there are lots of reasons for this, one is certainly the recent trend toward watches in the 36 to 40mm range after a period of “big watch mania”. Combine this with the fact that blue dial watches are having somewhat of a moment and it’s no surprise that the Black Bay M79500-0004 is the perfect amalgam of these trends.
Many enthusiasts hold pieces featuring the “Tudor smiley face” in high regard. Imprinted on the dial just above the 6 o’clock spot is the text “Rotor Self-Winding” in a stylized format reminiscent of a grin – one surely mirrored by the wearer. When the larger sized Black Bay 41mm line of watches received in-house movements in 2015, the text was updated and while “41mm smileys” still pop up on the pre-owned market, they are becoming more rare. The 36mm version by contrast has always used the Sellita-originated Caliber T600 movement and thus has always had the “smiley face” (at least for now).
Available on bracelet or strap, the Black Bay 36mm comes with either a black or blue dial and is perfectly sized for most wrists. The snowflake hands are a giveaway that the watch at hand is a Tudor – one of the finest timepieces available in its range.
