    Description

We at Feldmar Watch Company are excited to carry the newest release from storied Swiss watchmaker, Frederique Constant. Part of the Slimline collection of fine timepieces, the Monolithic represents a landmark moment in horological history and ushers in a new vision for timepiece engineering. Read on as we explore the technological advances found in this entirely unique watch.

The Monolithic’s caliber 810 movement is, quite simply and without exaggeration, one of the most important advances in contemporary watchmaking. This is thanks to the completely innovative silicon oscillator visible via the dial aperature. This single custom engineered component replaces 26 different elements normally found in an automatic movement. Developed by Frederique Constant in collaboration with materials technology firm Flexous, the piece relies on silicon’s unique flexible properties to offer both faster oscillations and less friction. The result is an operating frequency of 40Hz, a full ten times higher than most automatic watches. When running, the disc oscillates 288,000 times per hour. This means that every second, the second hand advances 80 micro-steps. At this level of function, the movement of the second hand appears perfectly smooth.

The Slimline Monolithic joins a rarified group of watches belonging to Frederique Constant’s special Manufacture line. Designed and made entirely in-house, the Monolithic’s innovations extend beyond the groundbreaking Caliber 810, the 30th such movement from FC. The dial, available in both deep blue and light silver, features a guilloché hobnail pattern that lends both elegance and depth to the overall dress aesthetic. An exhibition caseback on the reverse allows for up-close viewing of the FC-810 movement including its blued screws and open-worked rose gold rotor that reveals the decorative Geneva stripes beneath.

The Slimline Monolithic is available in three limited versions with just 810 pieces available worldwide featuring the silver or blue dials. A special pink gold version is available as part of an 81-piece special manufacturing run. Plan your visit to Feldmar Watch Company today to witness in person this piece of technical mastery. We look forward to hosting you soon.
