Description
Every great story has a beginning and for the modern iteration of Tudor, that is the now famous Black Bay diver watch. More specifically, the Black Bay Ref. 79220R, announced at Baselworld in 2012 set in motion events that would make the various iterations of the Black Bay one of the hottest watches today. A lot has happened since 2012 and now, the M79230R-0012 carries on the tradition of that original Black Bay design.
With an immediately identifiable color-scheme of black dial, white indices with gold accents, and a distinctly burgundy bezel, the “original Black Bay” establishes itself as an immediate icon. Through this color palate, Tudor escapes the “sameness” that can sometimes take hold among dive watches and sets itself apart even more so thanks to the “snowflake” hands that are now a Black Bay hallmark. Available on either brown leather strap or stainless steel bracelet, flexibility is key for the Black Bay. While the original 79220R used a modified ETA movement, current versions use the COSC-certified, in-house Calibre MT5602 movement with 70-hours of power reserve. While only time will tell for sure, there are already indications the singularly special Black Bay “Burgundy” will become an enduring classic.
