Ressence was founded in 2010 on a simple but revolutionary idea—to improve the function, legibility and ease of use of the mechanical watch. To bring it into the 21st century.
Ressence created a unique dial with discs, then filled it with oil and replaced the crown with a lever, among many other technological innovations. They went on to win the 2013 Horological Revelation Award at the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie with their distinctive approach to the art and craft of contemporary fine watchmaking.
ROCS is the name of Ressence’s 3-dimensional in-house module. The name stands for exactly what it is: Ressence, as they themselves patented and developed the module; Orbital, because that’s how the discs forming the dial move; Convex, as each of the discs are curved; and System, to represent that it is a mechanical module. ROCS blends each information layer into an animated mono-surfaced display.
The mechanism for watches to be wound by a crown was invented in 1842. 176 years later, the innovative watchmaking engineers at Ressence created the bold new e-Crown® technology, a revolution in convenience, design and performance. e-Crown® replaces the traditional setup functions of a crown with a state-of-the-art system that allows the mechanical base movement to interface with the ROCS module.
