In 1972, Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak – a luxury steel sports watch with a thin, octagonal case and an integrated bracelet. Though its initial reception was a bit mixed, the Royal Oak would go on to become AP’s flagship model, as well as one of the most iconic sports watches of all time.
The Royal Oak Offshore “Safari” is a modern offshoot of the original Royal Oak, and thus, maintains many of the same design cues. It has an octagonal case shape with exposed screws, as well as a “tapisserie” patterned dial. However, it has more contemporary proportions, with a case that is 42 mm in diameter and 14.3 mm thick. It also has an upgraded depth rating, with a water resistance of 100 meters. Powering the Safari is AP’s in-house calibre 3126/3840 automatic chronograph movement, which boasts a power reserve of 55 hours. The “Safari” is paired with a brown hornback alligator strap with light stitching and a stainless steel AP folding buckle.
This particular example of the Royal Oak Offshore “Safari” is in excellent pre-owned condition, and appears to have been worn very sparingly. There are slight scuffs on the bezel and very minimal surface scratches on the case and buckle. The piece does not appear to have been refinished; factory finishing is well-maintained throughout. This piece is sold as a complete set, with its original box, booklets, and warranty paperwork.
