Description
When considering Swiss-Made chronograph wristwatches, many people point to the usual suspects such as the Omega Speedmaster, Zenith El Primero, and Rolex Daytona. These watches feature iconic designs and historical significance, but there is something to be said for going against the grain and choosing something a little less obvious. Enter the Baume and Mercier Capeland Chronograph.
With its 38.5 mm stainless steel case with curved lugs, 40’s-inspired arabic numerals, and sword-like hands, the Capeland Chronograph’s aesthetic feels vintage yet modern, and elegant yet sporty. It’s powered by a caliber based on the revered 7750 automatic chronograph movement, which is perhaps the most widely utilized chronograph movement ever, thanks to its reputation for being both robust and reliable. It has a screw down crown and sapphire crystal, helping it maintain a capable 100 meters of water resistance. This example is in excellent pre-owned condition, and comes as a complete set with its original box and papers.
This watch is not the first watch worn on the moon, nor did it dawn the wrists of race car drivers in the 1970’s. It is a capable, thoughtfully-designed swiss-made chronograph for someone who wants something off the beaten path.
