Description
First released in the early 1970’s, the Rolex Explorer II is a true tool watch that has earned icon status among watch collectors. Like all modern stainless steel Rolex sports models, the Explorer II is a highly sought-after luxury watch that is becoming harder and harder to find in retail stores. However, compared to other Rolex Sports watches, the Explorer II evokes a less flashy, more rugged spirit. For that reason, one could argue that the Explorer II is most true to the original DNA of a brand that manufactured robust tools rather than luxury items.
Originally intended as a spelunking (cavediving) watch, the Explorer II features an orange GMT hand, 100 meters of water resistance, and markers that feature Rolex’s proprietary luminescent coating – “Chromalight.” This iteration of the Explorer II, the “Polar” Explorer 216570, offers a particularly unique and legible aesthetic, with its glossy white dial, stark black/white markers, and orange GMT hand. The piece 42 mm in diameter and is powered by Rolex’s in-house calibre 3187 movement, which features a power reserve of 48 hours.
This example of the 216570 is in excellent pre-owned condition, with minimal surface scratches throughout. The piece was originally purchased in 2019 and has been worn sparingly. It is sold as a complete set with its original box, papers, and hangtags.
