In the pantheon of collectibles, a few stand out for unique reasons. The “Inverted Jenny” stamp, printed by the US Post Office in 1918, featured a biplane mistakenly printed upside down. So it is intriguing that Omega’s newest release – the Seamaster Diver 300M commemorating the Tokyo Olympics – might become a highly collectible piece, even in its own time. Thanks to the disruption caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics spent month after month in uncertain limbo, ultimately being rescheduled for July 2021 and are set to go ahead in just a few months.
On the dial, Omega has composed a clean and tidy design with blue-outlined indices and hands set against a white dial. The 42mm stainless steel case and stainless bracelet are sporty and durable, providing flexibility, adjustability, and a clean look at all times. Finally, with an exhibition caseback featuring the Olympics logo and “Tokyo 2020”, the Omega Seamaster Tokyo 2020 Olympics watch will forever commemorate the Olympics that never technically happened.
