Omega: A History of Olympic Excellence

Omega has been the “official timekeeper” of the Olympic games since the 1932 Games of the X Olympiad in Los Angeles, for which they provided 30 stunning stopwatches. As many watch aficionados know, since the 1950s they have also commemorated the Olympics with special, limited edition watches that are much sought after by collectors. Beginning with an 18K gold Seamaster created for the 1956 Melbourne games, and continuing to this day, Omega has celebrated Olympic excellence with a series of commemorative timepieces that combine award-winning design with technological innovation.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, China. Omega will once again be the official timekeeper and is proud to present an extraordinary special edition timepiece. This steel Diver 300M features tributes to the Winter Olympics on both the dial and caseback—a sun-brushed blue ceramic dial with laser-engraved waves, rhodium-plated indexes, hands filled with Super-LumiNova and a polished and brushed caseback with a stamped Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 emblem. Additionally, the minute markers at 2H, 4H, 8H, 10H and 12H have been created in one of the five colors of the iconic Olympic Rings. The bezel ring is crafted in grade 5 titanium and features a 60-minute diving scale in positive relief.

For the Tokyo Collection, the master watchmakers at Omega introduced three limited edition Seamaster timepieces—a Diver 300M, Aqua Terra 150M and Planet Ocean 600M. The Diver 300M has a stainless steel case mounted with a blue ceramic bezel and a polished white ceramic dial with laser-engraved waves. The stainless steel Aqua Terra was designed for exemplary performance on both land and sea, with a polished blue ceramic dial with a laser-engraved pattern inspired by the Tokyo Games emblem as well as rhodium-plated hands and indexes. The Planet Ocean is a tribute to Tokyo with a true Japanese touch, featuring a polished white ceramic dial embellished with a red-tipped lollipop central seconds hand. Omega marked the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea with two limited edition Seamaster models, both with the beauty and precision you’ve come to expect from Omega. The stainless steel Seamaster Aqua Terra Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition uses the five colors of the Olympic Rings to inscribe the words PYEONGCHANG 2018 on the minute track, with the number 18 aligning perfectly with the time indication. The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition dazzles in the colors of the South Korean flag, with a polished blue ceramic dial and unidirectional bezel, blended with red rubber for the first 15 minutes. The timepiece is complemented by a blue and red rubber strap.

Olympic Games “Rio 2016” Collection

The master watchmakers at Omega created three timepieces in tribute to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Fun fact, Scott attended the 2016 Olympic Games!). The Seamaster Diver 300M Rio 2016 is sporty and elegant, inspired by the musical rhythm of Rio de Janeiro. It features a stainless steel case, and a wave-pattern dial inspired by the iconic Copacabana sidewalk mosaic. The polished black ceramic bezel ring has lacquered numerals in blue, yellow, green and red, representing the five colors of the Olympic rings. The Seamaster Bullhead Rio 2016 is highlighted by a blue leather strap with multi-colored stitching in yellow, green, red and black. This color scheme continues on the rotating inner-bezel, signifying unity. The Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 is a chronograph with three sub-dials decorated with a bronze ring, an 18K yellow gold ring and a 925 silver ring. It features a steel case and bracelet, and a matt black dial.
