OMEGA’s Most Iconic Watches

The year is 1848. The ballet Faust premiers at La Scala in Milan; gold is found at Sutter’s Mill, sparking the California Gold Rush; Wyatt Earp is born; Wisconsin becomes the 30th state; and in the Swiss village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, a watchmaker named Louis Brandt opens a small workshop that will eventually become OMEGA, the world’s leading watch manufacturer. In the intervening 173 years, the OMEGA watch brand has become synonymous with technical innovation, unrivaled precision and breathtaking artistry.

When one recognizes OMEGA’s rich tradition in space, sport and speed, it’s hard to choose individual watches from among so many memorable pieces. Even so, there are timepieces that stand out. Discover OMEGA’s most iconic watches.

OMEGA Constellation

1952. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of OMEGA’s first factory, their watchmakers pull out all the stops, creating a timepiece of unsurpassed beauty, grace and precision. The original design featured four signature claws, called griffes, at three and nine o’clock, and a signature star symbol at six o’clock that continues on Constellation models to this day. OMEGA Constellations are available in a variety of movements and complications, with your choice of gold, leather or steel straps, and several dial colors. A watch truly worthy of a centennial observance.

OMEGA Speedmaster Professional

1969. Buzz Aldrin steps onto the surface of the moon with an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional watch strapped onto his wrist beneath his spacesuit. The Speedmaster had already been around for a dozen years, and was immensely popular with those who demanded world-class endurance and absolute precision, including race car drivers, pilots and of course, astronauts. It achieved iconic status from that point on as the Moonwatch. The OMEGA Speedmaster is available today, with a variety of complications, dial colors and features, straps and crystals. A truly out-of-this-world timepiece.

OMEGA Seamaster Ploprof

1971. OMEGA develops the Seamaster Proprof specifically for professional divers, with an array of innovative features designed for maximum safety and durability. With a bold button that functioned as a bezel safety lock and a crown locking nut, the Seamaster Proprof was water resistant up to 600 meters. The most recent iteration of the Proprof has been upgraded with even more exciting features, and is now water resistant to 1,200 meters. Still a boon for professional divers, and a stunning addition to the collection of any watch enthusiast.

OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M

1993. Roland Specter sets a freshwater free dive world record, reaching a depth of 80 meters while wearing the then new OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M on his wrist. It was soon the watch of choice for athletes and divers. And, of course, any man or woman who appreciates style, sophistication and cutting-edge technology. In 1995, Pierce Brosnan wore the Seamaster Diver 300M as James Bond in Goldeneye, and when Daniel Craig stepped into the role, he continued to wear the same timepiece. A variety of Seamaster models are available today, including the Seamaster 300M James Bond 007 “No Time to Die” Edition. Wearing this iconic watch may not give you a license to kill, but it will make you feel like you can take on all the agents of SPECTRE without spilling your martini.

OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M

2005. OMEGA introduces their newest major divers watch, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M—designed to be nothing less than the finest, most innovative divers watch in the world. The technology employed here is breathtaking. Water resistance to 60 bar/600 meters; helium-escape valve; alveol screw-in caseback and crown; liquidmetal diving scale; Super-LumiNova coating on hour hand, minute hand, second hand and indexes that make them glow in the dark; up to 15,000 gauss resistance to magnetic fields. And because it’s designed by the master watchmakers at OMEGA, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M looks as good with a tuxedo as it does with a dive suit. Which may be why Daniel Craig also wore this model as James Bond, in Quantum of Solace.

BONUS—The OMEGA Olympic commemorative watches

1932. OMEGA provides 30 special stopwatches to the Games of the X Olympiad in Los Angeles, becoming the de facto “official timekeeper” of the Olympic games. Beginning with the 1956 Melbourne games, OMEGA began creating limited edition commemorative watches to celebrate Olympic excellence, each timepiece a masterpiece of design and technical prowess. The most recent, a steel Diver 300M in tribute to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, continues this tradition of which OMEGA is justifiably proud.
