Event Recap: Team Sol Meller Takes On the 2023 LA Cancer Challenge
What an event! On Sunday, October 22 the #FeldmarFam, along with thousands of others, rallied on the UCLA campus for the 2023 LA Cancer Challenge. Supporting the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the LACC brings together those whose lives have been touched by pancreatic cancer for a day of celebration and remembrance. Now in it’s 26th year, the LACC has become an LA institution!
As a top fundraising team, Team Sol Meller got our own tent! Serving as a rendezvous point, team members trickled in, grabbing a snack or a Gatorade before the day’s events. There was plenty to do for kids and adults, with bounce-houses and freebies from local partners supporting the event. Once properly stretched, it was time for Team Sol to start the race!
Along with thousands of others, we made our way across the starting line, to the cheers and applause of supporters. At the front of the pack, competitors hit the pavement, competing the prizes alotted for the top finishers. Most of Team Sol took a more leisurely pace, enjoying the atmosphere and friendly conversation while strolling the beautiful campus on a gorgeous LA day!
Following the course as it weaved through campus, we passed UCLA’s practice fields, arriving at the “big hill” (really, it wasn’t that steep). Looking back at the course, it was inspiring to see just a fraction of the supporters who turned out on race day. Thousands strong, we marched for the same cause!
Soon, the finish line was in sight, which meant doughnuts! Dre and Ben each grabbed one from the wall before we headed back to Team Sol’s tent. Nothing like a sugar rush to go with those endorphins!
Race day wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support we receive from you! This year, Team Sol Meller raised over $33,000 for pancreatic cancer research. As one of the top teams, Felmdar President, Scott Meller was recognized onstage by the LACC organizers. We are honored to be a part of this important event and can’t wait to see you next year!
