Event Recap: Tissot x Feldmar at MotoGP Austin
In March, Feldmar Watch Company headed to Texas to join Tissot, the official timekeeper of MotoGP at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas for an adrenaline-fueled weekend full of screaming engines, warm Texas days, good company — and most importantly — excellent watches. Alexa, play “Texas Sun”…
Day One As they say, “Everything is bigger in Texas.” When we touched down in Austin on Day One, our level of excitement was already riding high long before we even made it to the track. First order of business was heading to the Tissot brand summit where we heard from Matt George and Olivier Cosandier about the exciting future of Tissot — and got a sneak peek of the upcoming watches for this year. Some of which you might’ve already seen on our weekly Hot List or Instagram stories! (We’re suckers for the new Visodate.)
Day Two (qualification/sprint day) automatically started off on the right foot, or should we say…left wrist. We were lucky enough to be able to unbox and test drive the new Tissot T-Race MotoGP Edition Automatic during the race weekend. It was like Christmas in March. (Check IG for the full review!) With the T-Race on the wrist, the morning went into overdrive. We were off to the track before 9:00 A.M. without time to even grab our coffee! (Truly. It was so close. Within our grasp. Paid for. Being brewed. But it was coffee or charter bus. A truly impossible choice.) As we rolled up to the track (in the charter bus), the energy was palpable. Fans from all over the world were there to watch a spectacle of speed, engineering, and precision. A passion shared by both motorsport and watch enthusiasts alike.
Day Three – Race Day. It was like Christmas all over again — but this time we unboxed the Tissot T-Race MotoGP Edition Quartz. We hopped on the charter for another early ride to the track and were whisked straight to the hospitality suite for another jam-packed day of thrills (don’t worry, there was plenty of coffee to be had). Before the main event, we were lucky enough to be invited down onto the track for a grid walk prior to the Moto2 race. Walking amongst the bikes and riders as they stared down the 133’ tall hill into Turn 1 was an unforgettable experience. We were promptly ushered off of the track to the pit wall where we watched the start of the race track-side. And what a start it was. Like a sudden Texas thunderstorm, the bikes roared to life and shook the earth before darting off the line like a bolt of lightning. We engaged the chronograph as the riders crossed the start line to time Lap 1. However, to everyone’s dismay, a third of the pack wrecked halfway through the first lap (everyone was okay), and we weren’t able to time it again before they ushered us back to the paddock. Turns out racing is tough! Who knew?
Next up was the main event. The stage was set for the MotoGP to take on the winding 3.5 miles of the Circuit of the Americas. We witnessed the drama unfold from the VIP Village overlooking the front straight. It was a sight and sound to behold as the bikes raced by at over 200mph. The only thing able to keep up was the T-Race MotoGP Edition Quartz on my wrist with its ability to measure down to a tenth of a second. Marco Bezzechi came away with the win and Tissot’s Enea Bastianini finished in a hard-fought 6th place just behind Marc Marquez. And with that, a brilliant weekend of high octane fun reached its finish line for us in Austin.
We want to extend a Texas-sized thank you to Tissot for their hospitality and professionalism. We experienced some exhilarating racing and previewed some exciting new watches! It was a blast of a weekend, and we’re grateful to grow the relationship between Tissot and Feldmar Watch Company.
