A Day on the Wrist: Alpina Alpiner National Park Foundation Edition
Scott Meller, President of Feldmar Watch Company, recently went to Yosemite National Park and brought a very special companion along with him – the new Alpina Alpiner National Park Foundation Edition watch! Read about his connection with Yosemite and his latest adventure below.
Talk about your connection to Yosemite National Park. How long have you been going there and what do you love about it?
My connection to Yosemite dates back to my early childhood. My parents would take us camping there every summer for as long as I can remember. We had so much fun filled with adventures including walking, hiking and biking our way around the valley floor, water play in the river and of course, campfires with s’mores each and every night!
Within the park, what are your favorite spots to visit and why?
I don’t know that I am able to choose a favorite spot. However, to this day, each time I visit, I am equally excited to arrive at Tunnel View, the viewpoint made famous by Ansel Adams and the first point you can view the whole valley when entering through the south entrance of the park. It never gets old!
In addition to going there to relax, I also understand that you do a fair bit of hiking. What are your favorite hiking trails and why?
Traditionally, we start our hikes at Happy Isle which is the beginning of the John Muir Trail in Yosemite Valley. However, at this point, I have hiked almost all the trails in that area and am now exploring hiking trails originating at Toulumme Meadows and the surrounding area.
You had the opportunity to wear the new Alpina Alpiner National Park Foundation Edition watch on your most recent trip to Yosemite. Can you tell us a little about that watch and the partnership between Alpina and the National Park Foundation?

The Alpiner National Park Foundation Edition is a high performing timepiece that supports a great cause. The watch was created in collaboration with the National Park Foundation, the official non-profit partner of the United States National Park Service, and features the NPF’s logo on a tan leather strap. The case back is embossed with the Alpina and NPF logos, and the timepiece is packaged in a special wooden box along with a limited edition patch. The coolest part? Alpina is donating $100 for every watch sold. Through this partnership and donation, Alpina is supporting the NPF’s mission to protect and enhance America’s national parks for present and future generations.
The Alpiner is known for precision and durability. What other features made this watch the perfect companion for your Yosemite adventure?
This Alpiner is a modern-day sports watch that was absolutely built with an adventurer in mind. It’s anti-magnetic, anti-shock, water-resistant up to 100m and stainless. I had no fear wearing it during my latest Yosemite trip to hike, climb and explore. The clean design allows for easy readability no matter the conditions and as you can see from the photos, the forest green dial and brown leather strap embody the beauty of the trails and views that the collaboration strives to preserve.
