Collection Spotlight: Trilobe Les Matinaux

Paris-based watchmaker, Gautier Massonneauis, launched Trilobe in 2018 starting with the outstanding Swiss-made Les Matinaux series. When doing so, the master watchmakers at Trilobe undertook a technical challenge, a quest if you will—to transform the traditional way watches work, with two hands traversing a numbered dial, replacing it with three rotating rings. The largest for hours, the median one for minutes, the smallest one for seconds. Each one following its own path, they move in a counter-clockwise motion, never overlapping. To say they were successful would be an understatement.

The Les Matinaux Collection: Swiss Expertise, Exquisite Design

Imagine timepieces that combine revolutionary technological innovation with unsurpassed artistry—these are the watches of the Les Matinaux collection. Choose from an extraordinary variety of material, color and strap combinations: rose gold or steel cases; red, blue, green, and silver dials; and alligator, calfskin, or suede straps.

How it Works: A New Spin on Time

Encouraging the wearer to slow down and contemplate time itself, the Les Matinaux collection employs a new method of time indication. The brand’s unique tri-pointed floral emblem is affixed in three places upon the dial. While each one points at a fixed position, it is the corresponding rotating discs that are the key to the watch’s secret. As each disc passes by, printed numerals clearly show the seconds (the smallest inner disc), minutes (the middle disc), and hours (the outermost disc). Together, this new approach to reading the time puts Trilobe’s timepieces in a class of their own.

Movement of Time

When you flip the watch over, you’ll see the micro-rotor movement developed by Le Cercle des Horlogers, a high-end mechanical movement maker. When fully wound, its power reserve is 48 hours. With a unique architecture in which each component seems to rest perfectly in place, this is a timepiece as captivating when viewed in reverse as from the front – a brilliant corollary to the innovative time-telling found upon the dial.
