Event Recap: Bremont’s Waterman Apex II Launch

Feldmar Watch Company was proud and honored to join Bremont and legendary big wave surfer Laird Hamilton in a full day of festivities to celebrate the launching of Bremont’s newest diving watch, the Waterman Apex II.

Bremont’s commitment to developing the world’s finest diving watches is well known. Over many years they’ve worked with professional divers, military personnel including the Royal Navy Clearance Divers, open water swimmers, free divers, SCUBA divers, professional sailing teams, (and of course surfers!) to ensure their watches can be relied on in any nautical environment.

The Waterman Apex II is Bremont’s latest high-performance mechanical dive watch. Personally tested by Laird Hamilton, the Waterman Apex II is being released as a limited edition of just 350 pieces. It’s a 43mm stainless steel dive watch featuring an automatic movement with a 50 hour power reserve, 24-hour ceramic uni-directional rotating bezel, and protective features such as an antishock movement mount and automatic helium escape valve.

The launch event started with an exclusive experience at the home of Laird Hamilton and his wife, former professional volleyball player Gabrielle Reece attended by our very own Ben Scheidt! Ben and the other special guests began their day with get-to-know-you chat and coffee from Hamilton’s Superfood line of clean, plant-based products. They then moved on to a home workout, where Hamilton led them through 30 minutes of breathwork exercises, with the goal of expanding lung capacity and centering the mind. A trip to the sauna was next, followed by an ice plunge. Finally, they visited the pool, building strength by vaulting from the bottom to the surface while holding weights in each hand. What a challenge! This first part of the day ended with lunch in Malibu, where Hamilton shared stories of Hawaiian surf history, and his upcoming Hawaiian Surfing History exhibit in Hanalei.

The celebration continued at Feldmar Watch Company’s flagship showroom in Los Angeles. Laird Hamilton and his wife Gabby joined the guests for the launch party, where we served specialty cocktails celebrating the aquatic heritage of Bremont’s world-famous dive watches. Guests were treated to exciting details about the Waterman Apex II, with remarks from Nick English, the founder of Bremont. English and Hamilton then engaged in a spirited discussion, followed by an audience Q&A session.

At the end of the event, attendees were gifted swag bags filled with Bremont items, including mugs, a tote bag, and a selection of Hamilton’s Superfood products. Not bad for a day with the stars!

The limited edition Bremont Waterman Apex II is now available at Feldmar. Browse our online store or stop into our flagship location.

There, he got started in music journalism, interviewing artists and taking photos at concerts. A life-long tinkerer and collector, it wasn’t long before Tom became fascinated with fountain pens and watches.

Those interests collided in November 2020 when Tom started at Feldmar Watch Company where he lives out every watch geek’s dream: photographing and writing about timepieces. When he’s not tinkering with his watch collection, Tom can be found traveling, biting his nails while watching PNW sports teams, and taking flying lessons.
