Event Recap: Girard-Perregaux Unveils the Neo Constant Escapement at Feldmar Watch Company
Last week, Feldmar hosted a select group of collectors as Girard-Perregaux unveiled the newest edition of their ground breaking Constant Escapement.
We went hands-on with this piece of haute horology, seeing up close the unique design and advanced engineering that makes the Neo Constant one of the most precise watches ever created. With representatives from GP in attendance, collectors had the chance to discuss the craftsmanship that underpins the brand’s finest timepieces.
The Neo Constant Escapement is the latest evolution of Girard-Perregaux’s groundbreaking approach to master energy and a tribute to the founder’s name: Constant Girard. Embracing avant-garde styling, the Neo Constant Escapement forgoes a conventional dial and instead, reveals an array of components that are typically hidden from view. While modern and futuristic, the timepiece is inspired by an award-winning pocket watch created by Constant Girard in 1867.
Between two oversized barrels sits a silicium blade that is 6x thinner than a human hair. These miniscule elements are produced in a lab using advanced techniques, comparable to growing and harvesting. Each blade bends and flexes to move variable energy to the balance wheel, as the hands turn in a perfectly predictable fashion due to constant force.
It comes as no surprise that with the goal of making the most precise watch possible, the development of the Constant Escapement led to 13 new patents. Even 120 years after his death, it’s safe to say Constant Girard would be proud of the drive for advancement and precision the brand still embodies today.
Due to its complexity and intricacy, production of the Neo Constant Escapement is extremely limited however, Feldmar Watch Company is proud to have 1 of just 3 Neo Constant Escapement timepieces available in the U.S. Be sure stop by our flagship location to see this marvel in person!
