Hot List: August 16, 2024
Yes, a certain Australian breakdancer stole the show at the Olympics with a performance that can best be described as ‘fun’. But did you know that our own Scott Meller was also in Paris competing in the breakdancing event under the nom du danse, Scomel the Fly? Did you know that he actually (may have) invented the backspin move while trying to start up the movement on a vintage Omega? This and other phat facts are on tap for our hotlist this week…
OMEGA SPEEDMASTER CHRONOSCOPE “PARIS 2024”
“Scope!” If you grew up in the prime breakdancing era of NYC in the 1980s, you probably heard this all the time. Now that you’ve grown up and held down a steady job, maybe it’s time for a Chronoscope. This unique 43mm Chronoscope (one of a series) is a celebration of OMEGA’s role at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and reveals a trio of timing scales on the dial.
TUDOR BLACK BAY 41 MONOCRHOME
Ever wonder where TUDOR got the name Black Bay from? Maybe it was some exotic portion of Lake Geneva just waiting to host a rowing event in the next summer Olympics. Apparently, it’s a completely fictitious place “that holds secrets which can only be unearthed with time, step by step.” This monochrome black Black Bay is, however, very real, totally dope, and in-stock at Feldmar (as of writing this).
OMEGA SPEEDMASTER DARK SIDE OF THE MOON “BLACK”
Equally dope but even more black is this black ceramic Dark Side Moonwatch from Omega. Ceramic is one of the most popular modern material choices thanks to its appealing color range and specific properties, such as it being two times lighter than stainless steel while being equally as durable. Add this to the classic specs of one of the most storied timepieces in history and you’ve got yourself a watch that will spin heads faster than the aforementioned breakdancing competition.
ZENITH DEFY REVIVAL A3648
This Defy Revival exudes breakin’ vibes with its 37mm case size and bright colors. It’s no surprise because the original harkens back to Zenith’s most iconic chronographs of the 1960s and 70s. Using the original production plans of the original references and bringing back elements such as the steel ladder bracelet, this Revival watch revives an El Primero icon in stunning detail.
SEIKO MARINE MASTER MECHANICAL DIVER’S WATCH 1965 RE-EDITION
This Seiko 1965-style diver is a fresh (i.e. not whack) re-interpretation of a classic in terms of both function and aesthetics. Visible beneath the caseback is the thin and highly accurate 6L37 movement that beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph with a power reserve of 45 hours. The distinctively patterned blue dial offers LumiBrite hands and markers that will help it and you stand out.
OMEGA AQUA TERRA “MONDO”
Some fun facts about this watch: it is named after legendary Swedish pole vaulter, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis. As such, the seconds hand is in the shape of a vaulting pole, and the dial and band are the colors of the Swedish flag. Behind the wave-edged sapphire crystal caseback, you’ll find the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8900, which is precise, durable, and resistant to magnetism.
SEIKO PRESAGE 60TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION
This Seiko Chronograph 60th Anniversary LE is limited to 5,000 pieces with the production serial number engraved on each caseback. Celebrating the spirit of the 1960s, this design is an homage to Seiko’s 1964 “Crown Chronograph,” Japan’s very first watch with a stopwatch function. The dial inherits the original’s layout, color, and finish while the bracelet features a combination hairline and mirror finish.
NORQAIN FREEDOM 60 GMT
As you may know, Norqain is our newest brand, and we’re excited to feature this Freedom 60 GMT, which boasts a jumping hour feature (courtesy of the Manufacture calibre NN20/2) to easily set the local time and change the date forward or backward at any time of the day. It also has a weekend-proof power reserve, so you can put your watch down Friday, breakdance Saturday and Sunday, and put it back on Monday without it literally skipping a beat.
CHRONOSWISS OPEN GEAR RESEC AURORA
Chronoswiss has some of the freshest, flyest, most colorful dials in our entire lineup. Seriously, this watch will make you stand out and also earn you some serious taste points. This particular ReSec Aurora features a 3D regulator construction with a retrograde second and exposed mechanics in addition to a hand-guillochéd dial.
ULYSSE NARDIN DIVER NET OPS
Sustainability is key to this Diver NET OPS from UN. For years, the brand has been collaborating with high-tech start-ups and environmental advocates to find innovative new materials and technologies to raise awareness about environmental responsibility. The bezel is actually made from offcuts from the aircraft manufacturing process, reducing its environmental impact by 40% compared to other carbon composites.
